

MINUTES OF INTERNATIONAL VETERANS DAY FESTIVAL
COMMITTEE
HELD AT ASTURIAS RESTAURANT PUNTA PRIMA
ON THURSDAY 13TH MARCH 2008

1. The Chairman opened the meeting welcoming all those present. Our sponsors had forwarded their apologies at not being able to attend the meeting. The RBL representative is absent due to illness.
2. The Chairman informed the Committee that both his, and Bruce Heath have changed email addresses:

3. School Painting competition Bruce Heath stated that no further progress had been made with this event, due to the fact that local schools will be closed for the summer, returning around 7th September. Brian Bourdon suggested approaching Habernaras school, Royston Kear suggested contacting local Spanish/English Youth clubs. Bruce Heath will pursue these ideas.
4. Production of Dais Bruce Heath informed those present that this project is in hand, and will be produced on the day (the dais will be large enough for two people).
5. Treasurers report Dick Conway reported that the TIVF a/c is now open with Sol Bank, details will be passed to our sponsors a.s.a.p. We may also gain sponsorship/assistance with goods required for the Festival from Sol Bank. A income/expenditure sheet for 2007/2008 will be produced at the next meeting.
6. Timings/Musical accompaniment Baz Winwood informed the Committee that written confirmation had been gained from all those artistes taking part in the Festival. He then played an arrangement of music that he had composed to accompany the March Past. The Chairman and the remainder of the Committee thanked Baz for his excellent contribution to the event so far, agreeing on the March Past music to be played at the Festival. Baz also informed the Committee that he had produced the badges to be worn by Committee/Sponsors/Hosts, the Committee again congratulated him on his superb production work, passing the badges fit for purpose.
7. The Chairman informed the Committee that no further progress can be reported on the production of Charity Draw tickets for the Cruz Roja appeal, due to David Young not being present due to illness. The same applies with regards to VIP area stands, the Chairman will confirm situation at the soonest opportunity.
8. Association input for Festival Brochure The Chairman was unhappy that Chairmen of Associations participating in the event had not forwarded an article on their groups (max. 75 words). He again asked for this to be produced before the next meeting. Brian Bourdon is tasked with revamping the insert “What is an International Veteran”.
9. Charity/Information stalls Dick Conway stated that he is trying to get stallholders to attend the event, no charge will be made for pitches, and the Town Council are providing tables/chairs as necessary.
10. VIP Invitations Bruce Heath asked the Committee to omit the Military Attaché from Madrid as he has been invited to attend the RAFA event during the same week. After consultation the Committee agreed to invite The Mayor of Torrevieja, The Harbour Master Torrevieja, The British Consul from Madrid, and The British Consul from Alicante, or their representatives.
11. Any other business Royston Kear stated that he had looked into the cost/availability of trophies for the Tug’o’War event. Costs are from €42 upwards, plus engraving. He has the details, which we will use in June.
12. Baz Winwood suggested that the two ex-Royal Marine DLs, who ran last years parade attend the next meeting, all agreed.
13. The meeting closed at 1643hrs, next meeting on 17th April, 1530hrs at this venue.
