Previous minutes (4th October 2007) were distributed and discussed, along with notes from meeting between Graham Knight (Torrevieja Town Council), Rod Millington, and Dick Conway held on 9th November.
The meeting commenced at 1600hrs, hoping that the absentees would arrive.
The proposed date for the event (19th September 2008, timings 1900 – 2330hrs, venue Parque de Nacions) put forward by Graham Knight after consulting the Town Council events diary was accepted. However, the objections raised by RAFA were noted, but as there is no event planned for this day during their Battle of Britain week (also raised by G Knight), the proposed date was accepted by the members present.
Dress for the event will be the same as 2007, white shirts, jackets/ties, dark trousers, medals, headdress optional. Ladies, smart casual.
Davy Young suggested obtaining metal stands from Iron Art to support the plastic chains to contain the VIP area during the event. This was agreed and would be investigated by Davy on behalf of the committee.
Davy Young also suggested running a raffle on the day of the event. The committee agreed that this should be investigated. The Chairman asked the committee for their thoughts regarding passing proceeds from the raffle, and a collection on the day for the Cruz Rioja Ambulancia appeal (a new ambulance must be provided prior to Jan 2009). The committee agreed with the Chairman’s comments, the Chairman is to investigate this recommendation.
It was suggested by Rose Nettleton that double sided tape be used to attach the children’s drawings/paintings to the display panels, agreed. In the absence of Bruce Heath there was no report on the local schools participation in the event.
After discussion, Dick Conway was requested to purchase a further eight self collapsing gazebo’s to be used for VIP/Band cover.
Mark Mountney/Davy Young are still working on the new logo for the new International Veterans Day Festival. It is hoped that this will be completed by the next meeting.
Both Eddie Cowan, and Bob Pinfold have agreed to oversee the running of the parade, and the Standard Bearers routine.
Baz Winwood asked the committee to consider moving the dais in 2008 opposite to 2007, (i.e. facing the audience, as opposed to facing the stage). Agreed.
Mark Mountney asked if a banner from the sponsor could be attached to the base of the dais, also to the entry arch to the Parc de Nacions, and metal fencing enclosing the Parc. Agreed, Graham Knight to be consulted prior to permission being given.
Baz Winwood asked if the excellent PA System provided by the Town Council could be provided in 2008, Dick Conway will speak to Graham Knight on the subject at the earliest opportunity.
There being no volunteer to act as Treasurer, Dick Conway will stand in as Treasurer, with Davy Young, and Baz Winwood acting as auditors. Mark Mountney requested a forecast of expected initial costs at the next meeting, duly noted.
Baz Winwood volunteered to arrange for committee/host badges to be made.
The Chairman is to approach participant Secretaries of Organisations with regard to a brief outline of each Organisations aims/responsibilities in no more than 75 words, due to restricted space available in the programme.
The date of the next meeting will be Thursday 17th January 2008, 1530hrs at this venue Asturias Restaurant.
